Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago on Wednesday commissioned five cattle dips constructed the county for the purpose of enhancing disease control.
Speaking during the official launch of the facilities, Governor Mandago said the program will act as a platform to harness agricultural potentials geared towards creating wealth, eradicating poverty and boosting food production.
“The structures, funded by the county government, will help curb various livestock diseases including foot and mouth disease which has been on the rise in the recent past,”said Mandago.
The dips officially opened by the County Chief are El-Larhe,Kapkures, Nabiswa, Ex Cullen and Barsombe.
The Governor added that the county government targets to put up cattle dips across the six sub-counties in the county aiming at eradicating tick-borne diseases, improving animal health and productivity for sustainable growth.
He urged Uasin Gishu residents to embrace modern animal husbandry practices for the betterment animal husbandry without forgetting to take their livestock to cattle dips so as to prevent the breeding of ticks.
Mandago who was accompanied by the County Executive in charge of Agriculture Cyril Cheruiyot, also revealed that the county government has already set aside Kshs 13 million for artificial insemination activities within the county.
He at the same time urged residents to form cooperative societies, saying that it will help avert the collapse of cattle dips at their disposal.
