Uasin Gishu County Assembly has passed a law that makes spitting on the streets illegal.
The sponsor of the bill, Soy Ward MCA Isaac Chirchir , said the law would ensure hygiene is maintained in the County.
“We are tired of people spitting everywhere in town that is why we decided to come up with a law to discourage the habit,” he said.
He said the bill will regulate how people conduct themselves while going about their daily activities within the central business district.
“Some people have formed the habit of spitting in every place while in town and it is prudent to come up with a law that will curb such bad habits, which will also help in checking spread of diseases,” he said.
The law also prohibits smoking in public and receiving phone calls while crossing the road.
