Uasin Gishu County Assembly Freezes New County Employments to Check Wage Bill

Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker Isaac Terer has said the County Assembly has suspended with immediate effect employment of any new staff by the County Government.

Speaking in his office,Terer said the assembly made the decision to cut on the wage bill.Terer has also asked Uasin Gishu County Governor Jackson Mandago to revoke and immediately recall all persons who had been hired as Deputy Sub-County Administrators as those position are not provided for in the constitution.

The speaker said employment in the county must be streamlined to avoid duplication of roles and done within law. He said employees within the county should be vetted and rationalised so as to avoid such illegal absorptions.

He said the creation of Sub-County Administrators by the County government was unconstitutional.

Terer further revealed that the County Assembly Public Management Committee is currently investigating concerns that the County Government was engaging in nepotism and favouritism in employment.
