President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to adress farmers in Uasin Gishu County on Saturday 8th March during this year’s Eldoret International trade fair.
Security has been tightened in Eldoret ahead of Saturday’s event. Yesterday, Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Uasin Gishu County branch chairman Jack Tuwei told Uasin Gishu Bloggers that security had been beefed up ahead of the trade fair, which run from yesterday through to Sunday.
Tuwei said show the had attracted 170 exhibitors including 20 newcomers, surpassing other years.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to adress farmers on prices of subsidized fertilizer in order to spur productivity and close the cycle of food shortages.
The president had earlier last month announced that the cost of a 50 kilogram bag of DAP fertilizer will retail at Sh2, 000 down from Sh2,480, NPR fertilizer at Sh2,000 down from Sh2,300, CAN at Sh1, 500 instead of Sh1,600 while a 50 kilogram bag of Urea fertilizer will be sold at Sh1, 500 instead of Sh1,800.
The President had also disclosed that 143,000 Metric Tonnes of fertilizer worth Sh7.2 billion has been purchased and will be distributed countrywide under the Government’s fertilizer subsidy programme.
In the meantime Uasin Gishu county government has urged farmers in Uasin Gishu to take soil samples for testing at the ASK showground. The soil testing procedure will be conducted for free.
