Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker Isaac Kipkemei Terer has asked governors to honour summons issued by the Senate over mismanagement of public funds instead of going to court to block the process.
While adressing North Rift Speakers meeting Terer said governors should cooperate with the Senate because they are working within the constitution.
Terer who chaired the Speakers’ meeting asked the courts to work in harmony with other government arms and avoid undermining the Senate.
“The constitution is very clear and we urge the governors to read what it says so that they avoid engaging in unnecessary wars with other institutions like Senate, which is playing its role,” Terer said.
He said Kenyans, through the constitution, have given the Senate the mandate to play the oversight role over counties.
A week ago, the High Court issued orders stopping nine governors from appearing before the Senate to answer questions on county finance management.
