Uasin Gishu County Nominated MCA Caroline Chepkosgei Birgen has been granted a temporary custody of a two-day old baby found dumped at Moi’s Bridge shopping centre.
Vitalis Kipyego on behalf of the district children’s officer Eldoret East/West on Monday wrote a letter stating that Birgen had been allowed to take care of the baby subject to the mandatory review.
Birgen said the baby was found abandoned last Sunday and was taken to the police station. She went to the station to find out what happened and after the person who found the baby refused to take of him, Birgen decided to take the child.
Birgen said she was given temporary custody as they await full custody since the process is still going. She said there were many cases of children being dumped after birth.
She condemned the act and urged the area residents to be responsible.
