Uasin Gishu Government led by Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno over the weekend deployed officers to crackdown on groups along the Eldoret-Turbo-Webuye highway who have been siphoning petroleum from long distance trucks.
Chemno said they decided to undertake the swoop after they received complaints from members of the public. He said the criminals have been illegally selling the oil in bushes.
The weekend operation unmasked three notorious stations that engage in the illegal trade in Turbo Constituency.
“The issue of dumping and adulterating petroleum products along that route will no longer be accepted. We will continue arresting those involved in the illegal trade,”said Chemno.
Chemno said the County Government will work with the Kenya Revenue Authority to stamp out the illegal trade. Ngeria Junction and Bayete along Eldoret-Nakuru Highway have also been marked for illegal fuel siphoning activities. Some of those involved in the trade have been accusing the governor of plotting to finish their business.
