Uasin Gishu County Deputy Governor Daniel Kiprotich Chemno has protested an Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission survey ranking them among the most corrupt in the country. The survey was conducted between September and November last year when County governments had not come into operation.
According to the report that was
released on Monday, Uasin gishu county was ranked most corrupt.
Yesterday, some county leaders dismissed the survey and questioned the motive of
doing it. The leaders said there is
no way counties would be used when they were not functioning until March this year.
Trade County Executive,Philip Melly Matelong speaking on phone to KASS FM said: “Those are misplaced reports carried out under poor rationale that should be brushed aside.”He pointed out that corruption allegations on defunct municipal councils should not be used to insinuate that County Governments are corrupt.
“It is not in order to crucify county governments for mistakes committed by
previous Municipal Councils. I think the report should be revised properly,” said Melly.
County Assembly Speaker Isaac Terer said it is wrong to say the County Government is Corrupt. He defended the current county assembly against allegations of
corruption, adding that compared to
the past council assemblies, they have
worked to reduce corruption in the county.
