Uasin Gishu county governor
Jackson Mandago has added his
voice to the governors’ call for a
national referendum to protect
devolution.

Speaking over the weekend in Soy
while attending a church service, Mandago said this shows how serious it is that
more funds should be allocated to
counties for devolution to succeed
in this country.

“When the counties get more
money, that is when the people
will see the benefits of devolution
since services will be closer to
them as stated in the
Constitution,” Mandago noted.

He refuted claims that the
referendum was being pushed by
politicians saying that there is no
politics involved but rather the
move was aimed at ensuring that
devolution turns out to be
successful.

“The Council of Governors whose
members are from both Jubilee
and Cord is united on the issue,
and it is only devolution that will
make this country take off,” Mandago
said.

He also said that the Uwezo fund
meant for the youth and women
should be administered by
governors since they are the ones
who are closer to the youth and
women groups as opposed to the
national government.
