It’s said when you bury the past it rears it’s head after sometime. This has proven true to Julius Limo whose past has come back to haunt him.
He has been accused of being a nepotist.A case in point is during the aftermath of the post-election violence where Moi University offered job opportunities to the community in a peacebuilding bid,but Limo used his position as Chief and grabbed all the four vacancies and gave them to his relatives.
Chief Limo has also been said to have been among the few who contributed to the stalling of title deed processing in Sambul, Tulwet location. It is also public knowledge that he unfairly allocated himself a piece of land belonging to his step-brother. The old man could not hide his desperation when we approached him about the land issue, saying he had really suffered since Limo used his position as chief to oppress him and deny him his birthright.
He has also been working from his home where he is rarely found since Tulwet is the only location without a Chief’s office. He clearly has no development record and this is evidenced by a number of local brew dens in his neighbourhood.
It’s further claimed that Chief Limo has been discriminating against members of other communities.A Turkana lady claims Limo once harrased her when she went to seek assistance from him, telling her Turkana’s had no room in his location.
As chief,Limo participated in the making and implementation of a punitive policy. In the construction of the then Kesses secondary school, the community was called upon to voluntarily contribute, but he used his authority to compel each family to give a cow each as part of contribution. This did not go down well with community members.
He is further said to be a person with questionable moral authority. He spends most of his time in social joints, drinking and playing pool. A bodaboda cyclist who operates Tulwet-Kesses route told us he regularily drops him in his home in the wee hours of the night.
He further has made no effort to re-unite his divided extended family. It’s said that most of his family members don’t support his bid.
In addition to his already muddy track record,Limo has been alleged to be with no clear policies and has been engaging in backbiting and mudslinging his fellow aspirants. One incident is during a burial recently where he asked residents not to elect a pastor saying parliament is not a place of worship in reference to aspirant Ben Ruto.
It has also been rumoured that he may not have resigned and his so called candidature is to seek popularity. It clearly is an uphill task for Limo who has so far not made a name outside his village. Is he just joyriding?
